Fielding a Web Site

The process of creating a web site is a deliberate, iterative process between the client and the web designer. At Catamount, we follow an 8 step process:

  1. Conduct a thorough interview with client to identify the requirements for their web site and any additional associated design needs.
  2. Identify all stated and implied tasks and calculate costs associated with them. These are then presented to client as a bid with associated contract proposal.
  3. Client reviews and accepts proposed contract or a revised version.
  4. Propose site architecture in form of a graphic site map depicting levels of content and interactivity among components.
  5. Develop page layout designs for evaluation. Upon client choice of basic design, we proceed to building out the site and its contents.
  6. Complete design and coding of site incorporating client's supplied textual content, graphics and images (Note: we can assist with copy editing if needed. We can also supply graphic design and photography services if needed).
  7. Perform thorough testing and debugging of site on test server.
  8. Provide 60 days of free on-call support for any functional problems that may crop up following completion and acceptance by client. Normally, these are detected prior to launch but we don't claim to be perfect. Just honest.

Calculating Costs

We are often asked by prospective clients, "How much do you charge for a website?"

Our answer is always the same: "That all depends."

That's because developing a cost for your project involves determining your requirements, correlating them to an estimate of the labor involved to produce the results, and then applying our work rates to the nature of the work to be performed. These in turn are rolled into an overall flat fee which normally does not increase unless the client subsequently modifies the requirements.

The bottom line is that you will get up front quotes with the work to be done spelled out and the cost associated with each aspect of your project clearly identified.

Web 2.0---What is it?

Web 2.0, or "Rich Internet Applications refers" to web based applications that have some of the functionality of desktop applications. These bring greater interactivity and functionality to the web. Examples include advanced javascript compiler technology, Adobe Flash, Silverlight by Microsoft, Java/JavaFX and other proprietary plug-ins.

The term also applies to many CMS applications that provide interactive features such as forums, blogs, and other social media uses.

Catamount features Web 2.0 in its designs and web solutions for clients. Call us for more information.

Web Design and Development

At Catamount we combine the creative eye of the graphic artist to produce appealing site design with the web programmer's skill in coding and scripting to deliver beautiful web sites featuring Rich Internet Applications (RIA) styled with Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) coded to validated W3C standards.

What does this mean to you, the consumer? It means we produce sites that load quickly, look great with lots of user interactivity and are easily indexed by all the major search engines.

In today's highly competitive Internet market this last point can't be overlooked. If your site's contents cannot be indexed by Google or Yahoo, in effect, it will never be seen by an inquiring viewer. And we optimize sites as we build them as a "best practice" in web design to insure your site is optimized for search engines. In this process we deliver free of charge web site optimization that others charge much extra to provide.
